Guide to eCommerce, how eCommcerce works

Everything you ever wanted to know about electronic commerce on the Internet.

Chances are youve heard of eCommerce many times on TV, radio, its everywhere.

But do you actually know what eCommerce is?

   eCommerce (e-com·merce)
Commerce that is transacted electronically, as over the Internet.

Product:

The obvious first element of (e)Commerce is what you are offering to the customer. What your product or service is does not particularly matter, as long as it offers something of interest to the customer.

Place:

Place is simply where you will be selling your products. In eCommerce the place is most likely on your website, and possibly on some of your affiliates websites. The place element in eCommerce also ties in having a good domain name (.com name).

Marketing:

Marketing is very frequently overlooked when it comes to eCommerce. I cant tell you the amount of businesses spending thousands of dollars on developing their website, yet only pennies on the actual marketing online. The Internet is not magic, just like with off-line business, you must spend time and money on marketing your website. Without customers, it doesnt matter how nice or big your website may be.

Payment:

The Internet makes ordering products and services much easier. This is one of the reasons it is so popular, and growing at such a rapid pace. Online payment processing is an important part of eCommerce. The key is to make ordering as simple as possible for the customer.

Transaction Completion:

Once the transaction is complete you should do everything you can to make the customer happy. Customers who purchase products online are less patient than off-line. Most online stores have the allure of being able to purchase any product and have it arrive at their doorstep in a very short period of time. So you should focus on providing the customers with information about their shipment and payment status.

The keys to successful online transactions eCommerce are simplicity, speed, and communication.

Top 10 Web Design Tips

Ten great ways to make your website just a little better, everyone should check it out before proceeding their site.

1. Domain Name:
Your websites domain name (.com name), should be short, easy to remember, and easy to spell. It must be either your business name or directly related to your business name. I would also reccomend purchasing additional domain names, which contain original content, and link to your main page.
Think of it like this: Lets say your website gets 20,000 hits per day, or $1000 in sales per day. If you started a second website which is a mirror of your main site. And have that site contain original content, and *appear* to be an independent website to all of your visitors. Then within the site you can place links to your main site. Now if this second website were to generate only half that, you would be getting an additional 10,000 hits, and $500 in sales per day! Thats an extra $15,000 per month in sales. I have seen results like this, and we can help you to do this, just send us an email.

2. Simple / Text Navigation:
Use text or simple images for navigation. More and more people are using images to get around their website. This can lead to increased loading time on a page. If a page takes too long to load, a visitor will leave your site; and youve just lost a sale.
Nowadays, image naviagation is a bit more acceptable, just keep it simple.

3. Meta Tags:
The Implementation of meta tags into your website. Meta tags tell search engines what your website is all about. There are two very important meta tags to use. First is the description tag, this will be a brief description of your website. Second, the keywords tag lists various keywords which are related to your business. Meta Tags are very crucial to the success of your website. If you create them just right, you can get dozens and dozens of extra hits. Meta tags can make or break your success.

4. Looking Pretty:
In the beginning, everyone wants a pretty website. Never choose a pretty site over a fast-loading site. You cannot judge your website by the amount of people that say it looks nice. The site should be simple, yet professional. If the site is too pretty chances are it is going to take a long time to load; and again... youll lose business. Keep it simple.

5. Start with a Plan:
Before rushing into developing your website, know exactly what you want to get out of your website. Some companies only need a website to increase branding, other can take advantage of the internet to double or triple sales. The following are a few things to consider, when developing a plan.
Increase sales via the internet.
Branding: Create a web presence for investors or customers.
Increase Hits - Marketing
Know what you plan to sell
How you plan to sell it
Budget: Know what you would like to invest in your website, and what amounts will go to the development & internet marketing.

6. Dont be Cheap:
When it comes to developing your website, you should not be frugal. The internet offers a tremendous opportunity for your business / website. It is best to pay for a designer / marketing, without holding back. If you are going to do it, do it right the first time! Otherwise, you will regret it.

7. Dont attempt to do everything yourself.
If you are serious about the success of your website, leave it to the experts. Why try to design your own website, when there are experts in the industry who have been creating websites for many years. Never, I repeat, Never try to create your own site. If you do, you will make countless mistakes, and your website will never be as successful as youd hoped.

8. Auto Responder:
After a user has placed an order, request, or sent you an email. You should set up an auto-responder to let the visitor know that you received their information. In this email repeat everything the user has submitted (minus credit card info). This will help communication between you, and your customers.

9. Search Engines:
Search Engines are what will bring the majority of traffic to your site. After you have created great META tags (see above). You will be ready to submit your website to search engines. You only need to submit your site to about 10 engines. You will receive offers to submit your site for free to 500+ engines... dont fall for it. What those companies will do, is create a script which will take your information and TRY to submit it to 500 search engines all at once. As everyone know, some sites dont appear right away.

10. Pay per Click
You pay for each time a visitor click onto your site. The highest bid gets position #1, and the most hits. With some time, and a couple bucks you can easily find your niche in these PPC Search engines and start generating alot of hits!
